With a focus on achieving sustainability, we are trying to target 100% self-reliance for our energy requirements. Quite deliberately, we have neither opted for the Agricultural nor Residential electricity connections and decided to generate our own electricity. However, we still use LPG gas cylinders for cooking purpose currently.
Since Hyderabad apparently gets 300 sunny days a year, we decided to take our chances with an off-grid solar system. This system not only powers our Farmhouse, Staff Quarters, Cowshed, Security Cameras and outdoor lighting etc., but we use it also for running a 5 HP borewell motor! We have so far We've opted for BLDC Fans and LED lights with a high watt-to-lumen ratio for lower consumption.
We are presently studying the viability of setting up a small biogas plant to reduce our dependence on LPG gas cylinders for cooking purposes and also for augmenting solar power for things such as heating water etc.
